Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know about the latest Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode entitled “Subspace Rhapsody”. A fun take on the musical genre boldly going where Star Trek has never gone before.

This episode starts just like any other Star Trek episode giving us a problem and a solution that needs to be achieved; whereas the Enterprise finds itself scanning an area of space and using music to communicate. This communication attempt causes a subspace eruption where music becomes the dominant factor causing the Enterprise crew members, as well as the rest of the known galaxy, to become entranced in song.

This fun episode reminds us that Star Trek does not have just one genre it can give us a universal look into television as a whole. Many of the numbers in this episodes showcase the talents and abilities of the cast including a highlight performance from Celia Rose Gooding known for her grammy award in 2021.

While some people can perceive the episode as being gimmicky not touching on all the tech babble and scientific method used within other episodes, subspace Rhapsody is able to pass through this elements without too much attention to the mundane. I will not spoil the remaining part of the episode the episode for you but it does include several interesting performances and a return of someone we all wanted to see. The episode was written by Dana Horgan & Bill Wolkoff and directed by Dermott Downs. Strange New Worlds can been viewed weekly on Paramount+
